What is freelancing?

Why Freelance?
Freelancing may not be for everyone, but for those who love working on extra projects on the side or doing something that does not fit in the frames of a traditional job then Freelancing is a highly lucrative option. Here are 6 reasons that can help you decide to start freelancing:

1. More control and personal freedom
One of the best parts of being a freelancer is the ease and flexibility that comes with the role. You are your own boss; you set your timings, you choose your projects and you take off on the days you want. You can design your own work calendar to help you earn a steady income, if you have more time you can take on extra jobs to earn more and spend the next week on vacation and do no work at all. If you are a workaholic like me and feel the need to work on holiday, all you need is your laptop. Freelancers can work where they want, when they want and on what they want, their worklife balance is in their hands.

2. Be Valued
A desk job mostly means being given a task and obediently working on it as it is and waiting for the next. It's possible, but rare to exhibit your skills or showcase your talent or just recieve recognition. Freelancing jobs are mostly posted by business owners or their right hands who are interested in maximizing value and listening to your ideas for improvements and growth. It also creates a repute among top business owners thus increasing your network.

3. Earn More
Earning majorly depends on the numbers of jobs taken, but without expenses such as benefits, taxes and various costs associated with a physical office space employers can afford to pay higher. In other words you can earn more working from home and earn more on the same projects that you would work on from the office.
Another tactic that some freelancers apply is to keep a steady job full time or part time and work on freelance projects in their free time to earn extra.

4. Opportunities for Everyone
Freelancing is an excellent choice for professionals but you don't really have to be a pro to start freelancing. Freelancing projects range from iOS development to data entry thus the level of skill highly varies. Moreover, beginners, learning new skills, can start with basic projects demanding a lower pay to increase their chances of getting selected. This way they can earn experience, grow their skills and build a worthwhile portfolio.

5. Expand Network and Go Global
Happy and satisfied customers always need more work and they make referrals to their business network thus helping you to grow your network. Also since freelancing is not bound by location your network can be as global and as diversed as you wish, you can have projects in Pakistan one day, USA the next and Australia the third. This greatly adds to your global experience.

6. Job Security is Dying
Due to constant changes in the economic landscape and with the increase in automation, job security is not guaranteed and slowly dying. On the bright side the job landscape is also changing making freelancing a more viable and secure option. Being an expert in certain skills will always ensure there being enough jobs to take up to utlizise your skills.
