HOW TO GET YOUR LOST WEATHER INFORMATION BACK

HOW TO GET YOUR LOST WEATHER INFORMATION BACK

This is an easy fix and should not take you more than about 5 minutes.  The reason that you have lost your weather information (recently shipped boxes are most likely already fixed so are not affected!) is that some weeks ago the Weather Underground XBMC add-on became broken, and it appears to so far not had any activity by the developers to fix it.  So we need to change our magic box's weather service from Weather Underground to the alternative we now recommend which is Yahoo! Weather.

The step by step procedure is as follows so just carefully follow each stage to restore your home screen weather information.

1.  With XBMC in the main blue Home Screen select System at the far right of the horizontal main menu bar.  (NOTE Please ensure you are connected to your modem and the internet before you start.  Having the correct date and time showing top right confirms that you are connected to your router.  If that is okay just check that you can run up say IceFilms or say the ITV player to confirm that your internet connection is good.)

2.  Go down one click with the down arrow button on your remote and highlight Settings and click on it using your remote's OK button as normal.

3. You will now be in the main Confluence - Change Your Settings screen.

4. In the left hand column select the Add-ons option and click on it and you will have a simple list of various options.

5. Please select the "Get Add-ons" option from the list and click OK.

6. Select the option for "All Add-ons" from the list, highlight it and click OK on the remote to take you to a list of add-on categories

7.  From the alphabetic list of categories select "Weather" and again click the OK button.

8. You will see on the list an option for Yahoo! Weather, so please select it and click OK

9. Choose the Install option and hit okay.  Wait a minute or so for the Yahoo! Weather add-on to install and enable.  You will see an enabled confirmation message appear bottom right of your screen. Yahoo Weather is now installed but we are not quite finished just yet..

10. Click the remote's Return button (has the curved arrow symbol on it) several times until you are back in the "Confluence - Change Your Settings" screen you saw in Step 3 above.

11. Selected the Weather option in the left hand column and hit OK.

12. You are now in the Weather configuration screen.  Please select the top option in the right hand panel " Service For Weather Information" currently showing the now defunct Weather Underground and click OK.

13.  You will now have a choice to select Yahoo! Weather which you previously installed above.  So highlight Yahoo! Weather and click on OK.  This will take you back to the previous screen in step 12, but now you will see Yahoo! Weather is now the selected service.

14. Select the " -Settings" option and click OK.  This will take you to the Settings - Yahoo! Weather screen for Location Setup.   Highlight Location 1 and again click OK.

15. Using the virtual keyboard (or your wireless USB keyboard if you conveniently have one connected) you will see on-screen, carefully and correctly type in the name of your nearest main town, finally selecting Done.  Note if your nearest local town is not in the Yahoo! Weather database you will pop up a Script Error message bottom right of your screen. No panic as it will soon disappear and leave you to try again.  If your nearest town is not recognised then type in the next nearest town or city until you find the nearest one that is accepted and recognised.

16. You can then choose from the list of various worldwide same named towns and highlight the appropriate one for your location and click OK. There may only be one option shown but whatever make sure it is definitely referring to your local nearest town.  Once you hit OK you will then be returned to the Location Setup screen as in step 14 above.

17.  You MUST now select the on-screen OK button at the bottom of this screen and click on it with your remote's OK button. If you fail to do this step and simply hit return you will lose your location setup and have to repeat from step 15 .

18. Now you will be back in the main Weather Settings screen so simply hit your Return button a couple of times to return to your main XBMC Home Screen.

19.  That is it and you should now see the correct weather information for your selected location appear top left of your screen. :-)

20.  Congratulations on completing this step by step task.  Now please tell your friends, or at least those who may also have these magic boxes, all about this what we trust is a useful article that you found here in our Known Issues support section.
