Extended Select Answer

Follow these step by step instructions to create an Extended Select Answer question.


1. From the top navigation bar, select Content and click on Create Question.


2. Click the Student Action button and then select the Select Answer button.  Click on the Extended Select Answer question and select the Create Question button.



3. Name your question in the space provided and click the Save button.



4. If desired, add an optional stimulus in the space provided.





5. Add your stimulus to the question by clicking the Blue Pencil button and opening your Rich Text Editor. You can add text, audio, video, or images.  Click the Done button upon completion. You can name this tab or you can add a new tab with an alternative stimulus by clicking the (+) button.




6. Enter instructions and/or prompts in the space provided. If desired, change the Point value for the question. Click on the Gear button.




7. Check the box if you would like the options of Multi-select, Shuffle Order, and Show Table Border.  Upon completion, click the Done button.



8. Enter your text for the chart in the space provided. Use the Blue Pencil button to open your Rich Text Editor if desired. To add a column or a row, click the orange (+) button.  To delete a column or a row, click the red (x) button.


9. To mark an answer correct, check on the box in the top right-hand corner of the cell.  



10. Tag learning standards to your question by clicking the Tags tab. For more information about Tagging Standards, click here for step by step instruction.


11. Click the Show More button to see additional options. If desired, add a Rubric, Settings, Solutions, and Hints. For more information about these options, please click here.

3. You are now in your Question Editor.  Name your question by entering the name of your question in the space provided.


4. Add a stimulus to your question by clicking the blue pencil in the stimulus box.  You can add multiple stimuluses by clicking the plus button beside the tabs.


5. Click the Gear button to set up the Tabular Drag Response part of your question.




6. Click the pencil icon to add the text.  This text should include the terms that will be dragged into the chart below it.




7. Delete the sample text and add your own. Click the OK button.



8. Highlight the words or phrases that you would like to be dragged into the table below.  Once they are highlighted, drag the words or phrases into the table. Add column and row headings by deleting the prompts and adding your own terms. Delete columns and rows by clicking on the (x). Add a row by clicking the Add Row button.  Add a column by clicking the Add Column button.


9. Click the Scoring button to choose the type of scoring you would like.  The choices include Match Cell, Match Column, and Match Row. Click the Done button.




10. When you are finished, click the Done button.


11. Add the student instructions for the Tabular Drag Response by clicking in the stimulus for the part.  See image below for reference.



12. Once you have completed adding all the necessary information to the question, click the Tag button to tag your question to standards.  Finally click the Save button.
